P.hd in Electronics & Communication Engineering
The Department of Electronics and Communication was started in 1985-86. At first the Department was functioning with the help of Electrical and Electronics Department. Basic Electronics lab and other relevant labs in the Department were established in 1987, 1988 and 1989. The affiliation of the Department during this period was with Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD). Integrated Circuits Lab, Analog Circuits Lab and Computer Lab were added as per the requirements of KUD curriculum. In 1998 affiliation was changed to Visvesvaraya Technical University (VTU) Belgaum.
The Department is capable of offering subjects like Embedded System, Multimedia Communication, Motorola Microcontrollers, Artificial Neural Networks, C++ Programming etc alongwith other core subjects. The Department also encourages sports activities among students. Our students have participated in University Level competitions in sports and athletics. Technical Quiz competitions are being regularly held to sharpen the skills of students. The Students' Association ‘TECHNOVATE' was formed in 2005. Under its banner several educational programmes have been conducted
During the period 1990 to 1995 the Department progressed with numerous achievements to its credit. A full-fledged Analog Electronics and Digital Circuits Lab was opened according to the AICTE norms. A separate Communication Lab was also established. Under Faculty Development Programme teachers were regularly sponsored for PG programme to update their knowledge. In 1995 a National level seminar on ‘Signals and Systems' was conducted in the college and our department alongwith the other departments took lead role in organizing it. In the same year Advanced Communication Lab was upgraded by the addition of latest Fibre Optic equipments.
Faculty members were sponsored by the Department for attending Seminars, Induction Programs and Workshops held at other institutions. New Computer Lab was established in 2001 with sufficient PCs to enhance the computer facility for our students. Microcontroller Trainer Kits, CCN Trainer Kits, Microprocessor and Digital Trainer Kits were procured to fulfill the requirements of updated curriculum of VTU. In 2005 VHDL lab was set up with ten Evaluation Boards, one Logic Analyzer/Pattern Generator and Interfacing Modules. A seminar on ‘GSM Mobile Communication' and project exhibition ‘AVISHKAR' was organized in December 2004. Faculty members were deputed for Winter Schools/Summer Schools to various organizations to enhance their knowledge. Training programmes were arranged for the students in order to make them understand and tackle the problems faced in industries.
