Course programme
It includes the study includes fundamentals of Electrical Engineering embedded with Electrical Machines, Power System, Power Electronics, Control, Electronics, Communication, Signal processing and Artificial Intelligence. In the lower semesters, basic courses such as basic electrical engineering, Circuit analysis are offered for building the foundation blocks. In the higher semesters advance courses such as advanced control system, advanced power system (FACTs, HVDC, Power Quality, Protection and transients), Artificial Intelligence (Neural Network, Fuzzy Logic, genetic algorithmic. ), Signal Processing, Power Electronics and applications are offered. Apart from the subject course curriculum, the Department stress upon B.Tech projects on advanced research areas covering control systems, Robotics, power systems and optimization, Power Electronics and Drives, Image Processing, Communication, soft computing and signal processing applications to power, control and communications, distributed generations, economics in power systems and related areas. Both simulation and experimental based projects are encouraged to create a research ambience among the undergraduate student community.
Apart from the course work in the M.Tech first year, each Master student takse up a project towards the Master thesis in different areas as mentioned above. One year work on thesis results substantial research work in the form of publications in leading international journals. The Masters programme by research is designed in such a manner that the same can easily be extended to PhD programme on similar areas.
The Department thoroughly focuses on the doctoral program (PhD) with an aim to establish world class research with a quality measure. The major areas of expertise are robotics and control, system identification, power Electronics. Machines & Drives, Protection and control in distributed generations, high voltage power system protection, power system optimization and control, economic issues in power and energy systems, advanced signal processing to communications, embedded systems, soft computing and applications. The Department has joint collaboration with Intelligent Research Centre, University of Saskatchewan, Canada for higher research in the field of control and automation. Recently the department has opened a center for excellence named as "Centre for Industrial Electronics & Robotics" for establishing research and consultancy in the field of Industrial drive, robotics and control. The Dept. has been successful in securing Research funds from several Govt. Agencies such as DRDO, CDAC, IE(India), MHRD for conduct of high end research projects.
