The department was separated from department of Medicine in the year 1993, that time Medical Council of India permitted to start MD course, first batch of MD student passed in the year 1996. Medical Council of India finally recognized the degree in 2005. Till now about 20 students had successfully completed the course, and are working at Apollo, Max, Fortis Hospitals, few alumni are working in UK and other overseas countries. The Department started DOTS programme in 2004(Directly observed treatment Short Course) in which the government provide free diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis, since then the department has topped among all the medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh, in achieving the national target of diagnosing 75% of Tuberculosis patients and at least treating 85% of these patients. The department started Non invasive ventilation in 2000, and is now planning to start medical thoracoscopy.
