History

PANGEMTECH - Panjikar Gem Research & Tech Institute is creating history. Its first of its kind in Pune, India where research projects will be undertaken on Gemstones and Diamonds and their findings will be incorporated into the constant up-gradation of the courses and the syllabus. PANGEMTECH is the brain child of Dr. Jayshree Panjikar, a research scientist -gemmologist and the proprietor of Pangem Testing Laboratory - an ISO 9001:2008 certified laboratory. Dr. Panjikar has been this field of Teaching and Research for the last 33years, she is the Member of the Gemstone Panel of IMA (International Mineralogical Association), Member Board of Studies, University of Mumbai, Member Executive Council International Gemmological Conferences besides being former Head of R &D dept and Chief Gemmologist at the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council's Gemmological Institute of India, Mumbai.

Each candidate gets to use a complete set of instruments and large inventory of gem specimen which gives a candidate complete confidence to handle all types of problems in his future professional work. Training is given in all aspects of Gem Science, Diamond Grading, Treatments, Synthetics, Organic Gems and Pearls along with detail course notes and references books to hone the skills to become a Gem Expert. Students are encouraged to participate study tours to Jaipur ( for coloured stone market), Surat ( for diamond market) and Bangkok ( for International Gemstone Fair, Mine visit, Gem Market, for workshops on Gem-Treatment Identification). International and Domestic Exposure helps the candidate to take the right decisions and come correct conclusions while testing gemstones. Internships with local jewellers are also undertaken by candidates wanting to set up business activities.

Pangemtech - Panjikar Gem Research & Tech Institute, Pune is one of its kind Institution teaching the science of gemstones and diamonds incorporating latest research and technology in this field. All aspects including synthetics, treatments and simulants of major coloured gemstones, organic gems, diamonds and pearls are considered in depth so that a person can start a new career as well as a jeweller can add a professional touch to the existing one. Great stress is put on practical aspects so that candidates get very good exposure to all types of gemstones and diamonds. The entire program is in three stages, Basic Gemmology, Advanced Gemmology and Diamond which candidates can do in house by attending 3 hours daily or by distance education (correspondence course) in which case students come 4days in a month for practical sessions by prior appointment. Candidates can join for study tours to Jaipur, Surat, and Bangkok(Thailand). The courses prepare candidates for professional work so that one can become self employed or seek employment in higher cadres in corporate offices.
