PGDM - Retail Management and Marketing

Consumers are more demanding than ever in the emerging competitive environment of today. The customer of the present age is more information centric, brand and quality conscious and very keen to exercise his/her bargaining power.

Currently in India, the national economy and marketplace are undergoing rapid changes and transformation. A McKinsey report ‘The rise of Indian Consumer Market', estimates that the Indian consumer market is likely to grow four times by 2025. India continues to be among the most attractive countries for global retailers. At US$ 511 billion in 2008, its retail market is larger than ever and drawing both global and local retailers. Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows as on January 2009, in single-brand retail trading, stood at approx. US$ 25.18 million, according to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). Additionally banks, capital goods, engineering, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), software services, oil marketing, power, two-wheelers and telecom companies are leading the sales and profit growth of India Inc. in the fourth quarter of 2008-09. In this rapidly evolving Marketing Scenario, market success goes to those companies that are best matched to the current environmental imperatives. Those companies that have requisite talent can deliver what the people want. The complexity and competitiveness of businesses now require professional managers capable of running enterprise-class businesses. These managers need to be able to lead large teams, use modern information systems and take advantage of new opportunities across the Industry spectrum right from innovative HR strategies to developments in Information Technology.
