Course programme

The Kuvempu University offers Ph.D:Mathematics course to its students. The course structure for it is as follows:

Departmental Trust Areas of Research

Differential Geometry: Kahlerian, contact & Finsler Manifolds.

Fluid Dynamics:
i. Study of MHD /MGD Flow using Hodograph methods
ii. Study of Dusty Flow in moving frame (Frenet frame field system)
iii. Simulation of fluid flow

Digital Signal Processing

Research Projects :
Einstein Manifolds
Unsteady Flow of Heat transfer of a Dusty Fluid

The credit of award of first Ph.D., of Kuvempu University goes to mathematics department. The department has organised refresher courses(1997-98) national/international conferences in mathematics during January 2000 & December 2004 respectively.

The department of Mathematics was started in 1975 at P.G. Centre, B.R. Project as a part of University of Mysore & later it became an integral part of Kuvempu University from 1987. M.Tech is an inter disciplinary course Mathematics and Computer Science started for the first time in the State. The department possesses good teaching, research environment & a well-equipped laboratory. It has a clear vision, focus & a mission to achieve.

It is actively engaged in research in the areas of differential geometry, fluid mechanics & certain areas related to simulation of fluid flow using computer graphics. We train M.Tech., students for constructing mathematical models like mechanism involved in pressure cooker, construction of dam, borewell digging, coal gas production, natural conviction in glass wool, yam hairiness heat treatment of ball bearing etc., We also train our students to fulfill the current needs of software companies. The main objective is to prepare the students with good skills, which are essential for software companies. The project works guided by our teachers are published in reputed journals. The students are also deputed to various seminars/conferences. The department boasts that some of the first batch M.Tech. students have got projects in Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai.
