Course programme

The course is well equipped with laboratories and facilities for product development, microbiology, food analysis, instrumentation, computer etc. Till date, sixty four post graduates have been produced to meet the challenges and requirements of the food industries. Most of the students are well placed in India and abroad, holding prominent positions in companies like Hind Agro, Allana, Britania, Aditaya Birla Group, Kitco Foods, Vadilal, ITC, Pepsi etc. This is the reason the department attracts students from all over India and abroad.

Department is an important hub of R&D and is well recognized all over India for its work in the field of Biocolours, Functional Foods, Meat, Pet-Food, Beverages, Jaggery, Chicory, Biomass, etc. Department has active research programs supported by Rs. 1.748 Crores in funding. The Department is also engaged in providing technical guidance to the food industries and entrepreneurs. As Department looks to the future, it will concentrate on unique or strong programs that have the potential to move to excellence

The Agriculture Centre was established with University's own resources to undertake teaching and research at M.Sc. level in eight subjects namely Plant Pathology, Entomology, Nematology, Horticulture, Soil Chemistry, Microbiology, Fertilizer Technology and Water Management. In 1992 ICAR agreed to support the establishment of an Institute of Agriculture at A.M.U., Aligarh with a promised development grant of Rs. 2.6 crores during VIII plan. According to M.O.U. signed by ICAR and A.M.U., the university agreed to start 4 P.G. teaching programmes in the subjects of Agricultural Economics and Business Management, Plant Protection, Agricultural Microbiology, and Post Harvest Engineering and Technology. The Department of Agricultural Economics and Business Management was started in 1994 as a section of Institute of Agriculture and in 2000 it became as a full fledged department with following objectives.

Imparting education in Agricultural Economics and Business Management

Advancement of learning and Persuasion of Research in Agricultural Economics and Management

Transferring the Agricultural Economics for the benefit of rural people including farmers, farmwomen, emerging entrepreneurs and other associated organisations with Agriculture.
