Course programme
The Institute offers Phd. in Applied Mathematics. BIT Mesra has constantly been amongst frontrunners in the domain of technical education and research. When the research constitutes a Doctoral programme, it leads to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, (Ph.D.). The objective of this programme is to impart research training to the scholar, and prepare him for a career in independent investigation and original research that would make a significant contribution to knowledge in his/her field and profession.
Specific areas of research in which the Department’s faculty members are involved in are:
- Statistical Modeling
- Fuzzy Logic/ Optimization
- Differential Equations
- Difference Equations
- Operation Research
- Seismology
- Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Mathematical Modelling
- Solid Mechanics
- Heat and Mass Transfer
- Sampling Theory
- Agro-Meteorology Hydrology & Land Surface Process and Drought Characterization.
The Department is also involved in research in the following subjects –
- Meteorology
- Drought problems
- Water resources
- Management problems
- Forest fire forecasting using statistical techniques and GIS.
Qualitative study of solution of differential and difference equations with application to population dynamics is also being pursued. The Department has received several research and experimental projects funded by various agencies like National Board of Higher Mathematics (Department of Atomic Energy), NRDMS and Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) on various aspects of environmental as well as mathematical problems.
