Course programme

The Institute offers Phd. in Mechanical Engineering. The Department, recognized as a DST-FIST sponsored Department by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been receiving continuous financial supports for research activities from various organizations.

The Department is credited with the discovery of two new effects:

* Emission of Electromagnetic Radiation during micro-plastic deformation, crack initiation and propagation, and fracture in metals and alloys
* Generation of transient magnetic field during crack initiation in ferro-magnetic materials (1973 – 1975).

Smt. B. Srilakshmi, Ph.D. Scholar and Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Ashok Misra have reported an additional new phenomenon on “Emission of Secondary Electromagnetic Radiation during micro-plastic deformations of metals and alloys” which has been published in the Journal of Materials Science, U.S.A. (December 2005).

Fields of Study

* Composite Materials
* Materials Research
* Renewable Energy in Community
* Renewable Energy Resources
* Smart Materials/Composites
* Solid Modelling

BIT Mesra has constantly been amongst frontrunners in the domain of technical education and research.When the research constitutes a Doctoral programme, it leads to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, (Ph.D.). The objective of this programme is to impart research training to the scholar, and prepare him for a career in independent investigation and original research that would make a significant contribution to knowledge in his/her field and profession.
