Presently the working of Bhatkhande Music Institute is divided into two sections. First a University section in which 2 years Pre- graduate, 3 years graduate, 2 years Post- graduate courses and Ph.D. Studies are conducted. Second section is that of two years each Diploma courses comprising progressively of Praveshika, Parichay, Prabuddha and Parangat titles. The music study subjects taught in this Institute are grouped in four faculties, viz. Vocal, Melody, Instrumental and Dance. These faculties are further spread in Classical, Semi-Classical and Light Vocal (Gayan), Swaravadya and Talavadya in Instrumental (Vadan) and Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Folk in Dance (Nritya) departments. Swaravadya has seven instruments (Sitar, Sarod, Violin, Guitar, Sarangi, Flute and Harmonium or Keyboard)) and Talawadya has two instruments ( Tabla and Pakhawaj ). There are special courses for the exclusive training in Dhrupad-Dhamar, Thumri singing and Light music which includes music composition and direction.
