Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College was founded by the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society, registered under the Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII/1955. The College is affiliated to the Calicut University and offers B.A.M.S. degree (Ayurveda acharya). The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) and is of a duration of 5½ years. The sprawling campus accommodates administrative and academic blocks, hospitals, auditorium, herbal garden, hostels for men and women and facilities for sports and games.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is an outstanding institution in terms of academic excellence and achievements. The various departments and affiliated facilities, besides providing ample academic inputs, also contribute towards research that is on par with international standards.

This department is equivalent to physiology and biochemistry of the contemporary medical science. It involves understanding of human physiology along with the principles of the functions of human body from Ayurvedic perspective. The department has a full fledged practical hall and laboratory for hermatological, bio-chemical experiments, besides having another wing exclusively dedicated for human experiments.

The students are exposed to various aspects of contemporary and Ayurvedic physiology.

Dr. T. Sreekumar, the HoD, is the English commentator of Ashtanga hryudaya Suthrasthana. He has to his credit more than a dozen paper published in research journals of national repute. He has also presented more than 100 papers in various scientific platforms of reverence.
