It is estimated that thousands of senior banking professionals and executives would be
retiring within the next few years. This will introduce a serious knowledge gap in the
banking industry. One of the ways in which to cope with the problem of attrition is to
introduce robust knowledge management systems in banks. This effort will reduce the
learning curve of new incumbents as well as it will enable banks to retain tacit
knowledge of those who leave, which otherwise would be lost. This initial program by
IDRBT is designed to introduce concepts relating to knowledge management so that a
knowledge management framework can be implemented in the banking industry.
Knowledge Management will provide the bank with other spin-offs like improved
performance, competitive advantage, innovation and framework for continuous
improvement of the bank. It will help build the intellectual capital of the bank to a
substantial degree.
