Course programme

RedBOXX IIA Comprehensive Diploma in 3D Animation & Visual Effects covers a complete cycle of production and includes a great combination of creative and software skills. The students are instructed in Computer Graphics Imagery with Adobe Photoshop where students learn to play with images and create their own digital artwork. Next its time to play with sound and create some really cool music. With music and digital artwork in hand, you get to animate using Adobe AfterEffects where you will learn the art of motion graphics. This enables them to understand pace, timing and the fundamental nuances of animation. Then they are introduced to Autodesk 3ds max where you begin by understanding the fundamental basics of working in a 3D Animation environment, followed by Modeling which involves creating character and environment geometries. Then they are trained in Shading/Texturing where one plays with the look and feel of the geometry. Next stop is Character Rigging & Animation where one will infuse life into your scenes. All done, a student is ready to render out their shots. After a long and enlightening journey through 3ds max and Maya, students study the exciting and creative realm of Pixologic Z-Brush where they digitally sculpt and paint on their meshes and transfer this data back into their 3D Application. This finishes with their production process and they move on to Post Production they begin by learning the process of Non Linear Editing using Adobe Premiere and moving on to Apple's Final Cut Pro which is an industry standard when it comes to professional editing. An integral process in the production pipeline, Editing involves piecing together shots and scenes and coupling it with great audio to finish a masterpiece. The last stop is one of the most important one Digital Compositing. An exciting process, this involves layering up multiple elements including live action and CG and realizing unbelievable vistas. At the end of the course the students compile your demoreel and present it. The Various specialised programmes and their details are as follows: RedBOXX II - Frame I - The Storm Before the Calm Description: Pre-Production [2 months] Pre-Production is absolutely an essential step in the process of making an animated feature or a visual effects laden film. The process which begins by an idea/concept involves refining the story/plot into a screen presentable format as a screenplay. This follows designing and illustrating characters and environments leading all the way up to a storyboard or a pictorial representation of your film as a sequence of sketches. In this frame, you get to learn a lot of things from basic illustration to human anatomy, from clay sculpting to understanding the nuances of Photography. In a nutshell, you set the ground for your production to begin. Frame II - Keep Moving ! Description: Animatics Workshop & Presentation [1 week] The purpose of this workshop is to leverage the illustration, framing and story/screenplay development skills learnt in the Pre-Production Module to create a fully functional animatic or putting your sketches on a timeline and creating a short movie and then present it infront of the class. Frame III - Who's that Pixel? Description: Introduction to CG and Digital Imagery using Adobe Photoshop [1 month] You are introduced to Computer Graphics and Digital Imagery using Adobe Photoshop, the world standard in Digital Image Creation and Editing. Here you begin playing with images and graduate up to creating your very own Digital Artwork. Frame IV - Loud and Clear Description: Introduction to Sound Editing/Composition [2 weeks] This module introduces the students to sound composition using loops, simple track layouts etc. The aim is to inculcate the importance of sound in Production Frame V - Move that Pixel ! Description: Motion Graphics using Adobe AfterEffects CS3 Professional [3 weeks] This module introduces the students to Motion Graphics techniques using AfterEffects CS3. As a result, students get to understand frame size, composition, frame rates, motion, keyframing and basic timing as well as a good deal about colour sense. This builds up a solid ground for the 3D modules to follow. PRESENTATION A Complete Motion Graphics Presentation has to be made by the student with sound incorporated. Frame VI - Maxed Out! a. Foundation b. Modeling c. Rapid Sculpting and 3D Integration using Autodesk Mudbox [ 1 week ] Description : Autodesk Mudbox offers easy yet powerful sculpting capabilities. This module acquaints the students with sculpting and complete integration skills with 3ds max d. Shading / Texturing e. Lighting f. Basics of Animation g. Character Rigging h. Character Animation i. Visual Effects & Dynamics Description: 3D Animation and Visual Effects using Autodesk 3ds max [ 5 months ] This module introduces the students to Animation and Visual Effects using 3ds max. New to the module is Autodesk Mudbox which allows an artist to digitally sculpt and add detail to geometry created in a 3D application such as 3ds max. Visual Effects & Dynamics Description: 3D Animation and Visual Effects using Autodesk Maya [ 6 months ] This module introduces the students to Animation and Visual Effects using Maya. New to the module is Autodesk Mudbox which allows an artist to digitally sculpt and add detail to geometry created in a 3D application such as Maya. Once done, the details are transferred back in an integration process into Maya. Frame VIII - Who's Pixol is it anyway? Description: Digital Sculpting & Painting and CG Integration with Pixologic Z-Brush [1.5 month] This module introduces the students to Digital Sculpting, painting techniques using Pixologic Z-Brush. This follows a complete integration pipeline with 3ds max and Maya. Frame IX - Cut2Cut Description: Non Linear Editing [1.5 months] This module introduces the students to Non Linear Editing using : a. Adobe Premiere b. Apple Final Cut Pro PRESENTATION Students have to create a short film / documentary Frame X - Where's my UFO? Description: Digital Compositing [2 months] This module introduces the students to Digital Compositing : a. Render Layers, Compositing & Color Correction using Adobe AfterEffects CS3 b. Node Based Digital Compositing using Eyeon Fusion c. Basics of Apple Shake PRESENTATION Students have to create a short visual effects film.
