Description

In early 1960's a band of devoted, talented educationists and social workers joined hands to set up an Educational Society. Shri Vishnuprasad Desai, the then Mayor of Mumbai, Smt. Kapila Khandvala, Shri C. M. Trivedi and Dr. Madhuriben Shah established the 'SADHANA EDUCATION SOCIETY' (SES) in July 1961. "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" was the motto of the founders. They believed in sincerity of purpose in the face of odds. This helped them to reach heights of success.

The aim of the Sadhana Education Society is to:
. Spread education in all its multi-faceted dimensions
. Provide education for all, without any distinction of caste and creed
. Promote research in fields of Education
. Inculcate the value of cultural heritage of India

During the second phase, philanthropists, industrialists, business magnates and social workers like Shri. Jayant Dalal, Shri G.L Raheja Shri C. L Raheja and Shri Hans Bhugra were the invisible pillars on which Sadhana Education Society flourished. It expanded and developed into three faculties of Arts, Commerce and Education.

The very first and pioneering offshoot of Sadhana Education Society in July 1962 was 'The Sadhana School of Educational Research and Training'. In 1970, it was renamed as 'The Sadhana School of Education'. The college was once again renamed to 'Smt. Kapila Khandvala College of Education' in 1972.
