Course programme

The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati will award the degree of Vidyavaridhi to the students admitted as per rules of the Vidyapeetha, after completion of their research work duly evaluated by the examiners appointed by the Vidyapeetha for this prupose.

The Sanskrit version of the degree will bear the name Vidyavaridhi and the corresponding English version of the degree will be DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY.

Eligibility

Acharya or M.A. (Sanskrit) degree or equivalent degree/oriental title recognized by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupati with a minimum of 55% marks, whereas the minimum will be 50% for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.

Candidates who are appearing in M.Phil.(Skt.)P.G.Diploma in Reasearch Methodology and Manuscriptology/any other Post-M.A(skt) course of one year duration will be given exemption from the entrance test provided the candidate applies through this prospectus and submits provisional certificate etc.,

An aptitude test for entrance to Vidyavaridhi, on the abridged pattern of UGc NET will be conducted and the candidates declared to have passed the test/exempted from the test under rules, shall approach the Vidyapeeth for a guide or an outside scholar approved by the Vidyapeetha as a Research Guide and submit his formal approval in writing to guide them and get it forwarded in the proforma to the Registrar

Unless exempted under the rules, all applicants are requred to qulify in the Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test to be eligible for interview for the slection of topic. Candidates who have passed NET/SLET accredited by UGC, M.Phil. in the related Sastras and subjects/P.G.Diploma in Reasearch Methodology and Manuscriptology and university/ college teacher who would like to join the course under faculty improvement programme of UGC are exempted from the entrance test conducted byt he Vidyapeetha and they may apply directly for admission.

The syllabus of UGC NET Examination will be broadly followed for Part A and Part B of Vidyapvaridhi Entrance Test.

PART - A (50 Objective questions) 50X1=50

The following subjects are specified with a maximum of 4 marks each and each question asked in the paper will carry one mark.

Vedas; Jyotisha; Vyakaranam (Sandhi, Samaa, Karaka, Kriyaada, Vakyarachanam); Sahitya Sastra; Advaita Vedanta; Dvaita Vedanta; Vishitadvaita Vedanta; Sankhya Yoga; Dharma Sastra; Mimamsa; Purnanetihasa; Nyaya; Research aptitde; Kavi; Kavyas and Education.

Question Pattern

The pattern of 50 objectives questions will be as shown below

1. 20 Questions - fill in the blanks(without giving alternatives)

2. 20 Questions - as multiple choices marking a,b,c,d.

3. 10 Questions - Single sentence answers.

Part - B (Descriptive) 5X10=50

This part will consist of Question no.I & II.

a) Question No.1 will be COMPULSORY for all and will consist of questions on

A)History of Vedic Literature B) History of Classical Sanskrit Literature C) Vedangas

and D) Darsanas. In all, there will be FOUR questions, one from each of the above

branches. Students are required to answer ONE Question at their dicretionfrom any

branch. 10X1=10

b) Question NO. II will be SPECIALISED in a particular Sastra. There will be FIVE

questions in each of the following branches and the student is required to answer

FOUR only from a particular Sastra, studied at the post-graduation level. 10X4=40

Subjects/Areas.

Phalita Jyotisha; Siddhanta Jyoisha; Vyakarana Sastra; Sahitya Sastra; Advaita Vedanta; Dvaita Vedanta; Visistadvaita Vedanta; Nyaya; Mimamsa; Dharma Sastra; Sankhya Yoga; Puranetihasa; Vedic studies, General Sanskrit Studies, Sabdabodha Systems and Education.

1. The fee for the entrance test for Vidyapvaridhi Course is Rs.200/- only. The amount

may be paid by Demand draft in favour of the Registrar, Rashtriya Sanskrit

Vidyapeetha, Tirupati. The D.D. should be enclosed along with the prescribed

application form.

2. The entrance test will e conducted at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati only.

3. Fees once paid will not be refunded.

Research Scholars admitted under (a) Regular and (b) Part-Time programmes.

1. Regular students will pursure the course working fulltime in the Vidyapeetha, under the

guides on all working days of the Vidyape4etha for a minimum period of three years (or

two years as mentioned below at Sl.No.4) securing 75% total attendance.

2. The candidates admitted as regular scholars shall continue as regular scholars till the

completion of one year or till the end of Pre-Vidyavaridhi Test (PVVT) whichever is earlier. NO change will be allowed before the completon of such period.

3. The part-time research scholars will pursue the course for a minimum period of three

years (or two years as mentioned below at Sl.No.4) with a stipulation to complete 90 days of attendance.

4. The minimum period will be two years in case of holders of P.G.Diploma in Research

Methodology and Manusciptology/M.Phil. in Sanskrit/Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D) in the related subject or area. In such cases the private Research Scholars shall have to work for 60

days under the guide.

5. Any qualified employee of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati or a teacher in

any recognised school or college having three years of experience certified by the

competent authority will be eligible to register as part time Research Scholar and will

have to pursue the research under his guide. Such candidates have to attend 30 days

Compulsory Personal Contact Programme in the First Year of the course and undergo

instructions on the Pre-Vidyapvaridhi courses. He has to complete remaining 60 days

of attendance in the next two years under his guide. Then only he will be considered

eligible to submit thesis.

6. Regular as well as private Research Scholars shall present 2 Research papers on the

proposed final thesis during the last 90 days of the Vidyavaridhi Period to make

themselves eligible to submit the thesis.

7. After the expiry of three years, if required a candidate will be considered for an extension for one year subject to the approval of the Vidyapeetha Research

Committee. Maximum permissible extension will be for two years only from the date of

registration.

8. In case, the candidate is unable to submit his thesis within five years, he will have to

apply for re-registration.

9. After the completion of 10 months but within 15 months from the date of registration,

the scholar is required to appear in the Pre-Vidyavaridhi (PVVT) Test consisting of

three papers, 100 marks each.

10. If any regular or private candidate joins in any regular full time degree course either in

the Vidyapeetha or outside the registration stands cancelled forthwith. No break period

shall be allowed during the Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) course to join in any regular course or

employment or service.

11. The rules framed by University Grants Commission (UGC) shall apply to all

JRFs/SRFs.

Procedure for Admission.

a) In consultation with the Guide, the candidates will submit an abstract of his proposed

thesis in FIVE copies with the certificate that the topic proposed is a new one and will

be his original contribution to knowledge. It will be a new interpretation of a text, topic

or critical edition of hitherto unpublished work or bringing our a fresh edition by applying

principles of higher criticism to a work/text effecting further improvements on the texts

along with elaborate introduction and critical notes provided the proposed guide

endorses the work for higher textual criticism. The medium of presentation of the thesis

shall be Sanskrit in Devanagari Script.

b) Normally, a student will be eligible to pursue his research in the field/Sastra in which he

has passed ACHARYA examination or equivalent. In special circumstances, the

candidates can be allowed to work in allied subjects such as within Darsanas, Puranas,

Vedas, Branches of Vyakarana, Nyaya and Jytohisha with reference to the field of his

specialization at the Acharya level or its equivalent.

c) In order to promote interdisciplinary research, in the Research committee, if considered

necessary may allow a candidate to take approved Co-guide from within the

Vidyapeetha or other recognized institutes/universities.
