Course programme

I THEORY PROGRAMME ADSCRM programme has an integral Five month theory that precedes the actual thesis / dissertataion work or wet lab procedures. The ADSCRM study Programme on Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (Correspondence) is divided in to Five papers – 1. Advanced Stem Cell Molecular Biology (ASCMB), 2. Molecular Developmental Biology (MDB), 3. Embryonic Stem Cell Technology (ESCT), 4. Adult Stem Cell Technology (ASCT) and 5. Advanced Stem Cell Laboratory Techniques and Clinical Applications (LT & CA) (Theory protons only). Programme (course) materials for each subject will be sent to the registered candidate at the start of every month. The schedule of study follows the pattern as (since the month of registration):

MONTH COURSE FIRST ASCMB - Advanced Stem Cell Molecular Biology

SECOND MDB - Molecular Developmental Biology

THIRD ESCT - Embryonic Stem Cell Technology

FOURTH ASCT - Adult Stem Cell Technology

FIFTH LT & CA - Advanced Stem Cell Laboratory Techniques and Clinical Applications

II DISSERTATION All Practical - Project sessions are to be conducted in Chennai. In normal circumstances, the completion of the course work follows with practical – project session of one month duration. Since practical-project session requires physical presence, flexibility is given to the outstation candidates (residing withinIndia) that it can be done according to one's timings, but not later than 6 months since the course completion date. Further flexibility is given to those who stay abroad that after the course completion, as and when they visitIndia, they can undergo practical and project sessions with prior intimation or may opt not to undergo this part of the course. In all cases, the practical session is quite flexible and left to the conveniance of the candidate. An on-line virtual laboratory experiments also can be done to those who wish to learn the lab procedures through internet as it occurs in lab before proceeding for actual laboratory work.

In the following fields of Stem cell, the dissertation programmes are organized

Hematopoietic stem cells – isolation, culture and transdifferentiation (to cardiac, neuronal, cartilage, bone, adipose cells and other cell types)

  1. Cord Blood stem cells – isolation, storage, culture, transdifferentiation
  2. Peripheral stem cells – mobilization, harvesting, enrichments, culture and transdifferentiation
  3. Placental cord epithelial stem cells - isolation, culture, transdifferentiation
  4. Corneal Epithelial stem cells – isolation, culture and corneal regeneration
  5. Dental Stem Cells - isolation, storage, culture, transdifferentiation
  6. Tissue specific stem cells – Neuronal, cardiac, Liver, Adipose tissue, skin. Stem cells – isolation, maintenance, culture and differentiation
  7. Tissue engineering – skin, bone/cartilage, cardiac and liver tissue engineering
  8. Scaffold engineering and stem cells – biocompatible scaffolds and stem cell applications
  9. Long term Stem Cell storage and retrieval – Cord blood storage
  10. Cancer Stem cells – isolation and characterisation
  11. Scientific, Social and ethical practices and obligations in stem cell therapy
  12. Rules and Regulations to stem cell research and therapy – Indian and Global perspectives
