Ph.D. in Adult Continuing Education & Extension
The University of Delhi offers Ph.D. in Adult Continuing Education & Extension course to its students. It is offered by the Department of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension and under the Faculty of SOCIAL SCIENCES.
The Department offers Ph.D. Program in interdisciplinary areas. Currently five students are enrolled in the Department for Ph.D. The students pursuing Ph.D. are eligible for hostel accommodation as per university norms.
The Department of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension had its beginning in 1976 when the University of Delhi was examining the question of setting up a full-fledged Department in this area to offer degree level teaching courses and research programs. The University Grants Commission in their "Policy Frame of Higher Education" had recognized 'Extension' as the third dimension of the University system. The introduction of Adult and Continuing Education under the Adult Education Program of the Government of India offered a concrete opportunity to the university system for extension activity.
It was in 1980 that the University Grants Commission accepted the University's proposal to formulate a long-term plan on alternate educational needs of the city of Delhi. The plan resulted in a sanction for regular Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension in 1982 which later became full-fledged Department under the Faculty of Social Sciences in February, 1985.
