Most of the Instrumentation Technologies which were developed in the last century were initially applied commercially to the Industry and Defence. Notable among them were ultrasonic, radio waves, electromagnetic waves, nuclear energy, microprocessor and electronic devices as well as software. Biomedical engineering Instrumentation being an interdisciplinary subject has played a pivotal role in the product developments and their commercials applications and maintenance in the healthcare sector.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering has excellent facilities especially in the fields of Cardiac Sciences, Neuro Sciences, Orthopedics, Medical Imaging & Image Processing, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Endoscopy, Fiber Optics and Telemetry in Instrumentation. The Department has therefore launched a M.Tech Programme in Biomedical Instrumentation from the academic year 2009-2010.

The demand for Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering is growing rapidly and job opportunities for highly qualified post graduates are multi-faceted. They can work as Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Controller, Research, Design & Development Consultants, Entrepreneurs and Teachers. Persons gaining this qualification will be able to design and validate/evaluate electronics and communications equipment and systems, manage risk, estimate and manage projects and provide technical advice/sales. Electronic Technical Officers carry out complex technical functions related to the Research, Design, Manufacture, Installation and Maintenance of electronic equipment.
